Welcome
Up to 40 special needs children or perhaps more will get to try their luck with rod and reel and some free fishing at the Gray Lodge Wildlife Area on Saturday, April 17, thanks to C.A.S.T. the “Catch a Special Thrill’ Foundation and some Gridley area businesses.
C.A.S.T. provides disabled and disadvantaged children the opportunity to enjoy a quality outdoor recreational experience fishing on the water.
David and Ann Baker of Gridley have taken this project on and made it possible for this program to come to Gridley where special needs children can fish with the help of a volunteer from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. for free.”
If you know a special child who would enjoy this outing, you can get more information by contacting the Bakers at 530-301-5254 or 530-846-2778. More information about the chairty that organizes these events can be found at their website,www.castforkids.org, which includes the charity's Form 990 for 2007.
Each registered child (up to 18 years of age permitted) will receive a fishing pole, tackle box, t-shirt and hat, along with a plaque with a picture of them with their volunteer. C.A.S.T. is supplying the tackle a t-shirt and a plaque for attendees.
Steve Brazzel of S&L Treemores of Gridley is furnishing all the worms, Round Table Pizza is providing food. Johnson's Bait and Tackle is donating bait along with three other Yuba City sponsors. The Max Miracle Ranch in Biggswww.maxsmiracles.com is donating all the tables and chairs and has lined up ten volunteers. The 7/11 store in Gridley is providing all the ice.
Mr. Baker said additional sponsors are needed to help cover the cost of the event and if enough sponsors are lined up more special needs children can be accommodated. The group also needs more volunteers. 50 volunteers are signed up so far. Volunteers will get a C.A.S.T. t-shirt.
Registration for the children needs to be done by February 15 to ensure that all prizes are available in time for the event.
C.A.S.T. is a public charity that was formed in 1991 to join volunteers who love to assist disabled and disadvantaged children for a day of fishing in the outdoors. The Foundation became an official 501(c)3 in 1994.
